Your photographs, wherever they live

• External disks now have their own section in the sidebar. Expand a drive to its folders and rate, flag, compare and export straight from it, with an Eject button on the row.
• Pin the folders you keep returning to, in whatever order you drag them in. A pin on an external disk comes back when the disk does.
• Start the folder tree wherever your work is. Pictures is the default, not a requirement.
• A drive macOS will not let FirstPass remember stays browsable for the session.
• Folders made outside FirstPass — including a download's second destination — appear as they are created, and the view clears if the folder you are in is deleted or ejected.
• A drive that will not eject now says what is holding it, rather than showing an error number.

Several cards at once

• Copy from as many cards as you can attach, at once. Each has its own progress and its own Cancel, so stopping one leaves the others running.
• Copying no longer holds the window. Browse, rate and compare while the cards are still coming in.
• Ejecting a card mid-copy is refused rather than allowed to lose files, and cancelling tells you how much was copied.
• A card's photographs are listed in the order the camera wrote them, folder by folder.

Comparing and culling

• Compare up to 16 frames at once, and set how many suits the display in front of you.
• Unlock compared frames to line up two shots framed slightly differently, then lock again keeping it.
• A rating or colour flag set in one window now appears in every window on that folder.
• Set Rating joins Set Color in the Photo menu, and the View menu shows or hides the info pane and the image viewer.
• At 100% the image is drawn on whole screen pixels, so checking focus is not softened by the drawing.
• Settings now has a toolbar button.

Before something irreversible

• Moving or deleting a large number of photographs asks first. One setting governs both, and 0 asks every time.
• Dragging follows the Finder: ⌥ copies, ⌘ moves, ⌃ renames by your download rules.

Performance

• Improved loading performance for thousands of images.
• The memory usage is budgeted instead of by a fixed number of images, sized to your Mac and adjustable under General.
• Thumbnails are generated at the size actually shown rather than made large and scaled down.
